About 3,500 attorneys who work for the state lost in their bid Thursday to get the courts to give them a pay raise.

Claiming they are paid significantly less than their counterparts at the county level, the attorneys' union filed suit against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007 to force the Department of Personnel Administration to fix what they see as a "wage crisis."
