Most Spinka Defendants Have Settled Sweeping Fraud Case, Prosecutors Say

Prosecutors in a federal tax fraud and money laundering case involving the Spinka - a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Hasidic sect within Orthodox Judaism - have reached agreements with nearly all the defendants, a prosecutor has said.

LOS ANGELES - Prosecutors in a federal tax fraud and money laundering case involving the Spinka - a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Hasidic sect within Orthodox Judaism - have reached agreements with nearly all the defendants, Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. O'Brien told U.S. District Judge John F. Walter at a hearing Wednesday.
