LOS ANGELES - Despite the ongoing recession, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles' Legal Division raised a record-breaking $1.4 million at Thursday's dinner honoring litigator Patricia Glaser.

Organizers say the grim economic picture might actually have helped boost this year's charitable giving.
