California M&A lawyers optimistic about deal flow to come

Corporate lawyers say 2013 was a satisfactory year for M&A activity, thanks in part to several positive macroeconomic trends that they hope will carry into 2014.

A year ago, Latham & Watkins LLP partner Charles K. Ruck was bracing for a slow year of mergers and acquisitions.


"I would have bet against 2013," the veteran corporate attorney said. "We had a lot of year-end 2012 work. Taxes were going up ... interest rates were at a flux point and I thought people would have taken a breather."


But a year later, he's happy...
