Pao loss could pour cold water on plaintiffs' lawyers

Ellen Pao's defeat could set the bar higher for taking gender discrimination suits or taking those cases to a jury trial.

After years of litigation and a monthlong trial, the one inescapable fact remains that venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers defeated all of Ellen Pao's claims. So whatever the trial's broader legacy - like the national conversation it sparked about sexism in Silicon Valley - in the end, the San Francisco jury decided her arguments were without merit and worth zilch.
