Class action filed against Chiquita for allegedly misleading consumers

The banana company faces a consumer class action complaint in California for misrepresentations of its growing practices in Guatemala.

A proposed class action has been filed against banana giant Chiquita Brands International in the Central District over alleged misrepresentations on its website claiming all of its plantations were socially and environmentally responsible, when a Guatemalan supplier continues to spray pesticides indiscriminately and contaminate local drinking water, leading to illness in five surrounding communities.
