Patent lawsuits soar in Texas

Federal courts received a record 1,453 patent lawsuits during the first three months of this year, surpassing the 1,275 lawsuits during the same period last year and edging out the previous record of 1,440 in 2013, according to new data.

A new judge in the Eastern District of Texas may be prompting a renewed surge in patent litigation.


Federal courts received a record 1,453 patent lawsuits during the first three months of this year, surpassing the 1,275 lawsuits during the same period last year and just edging out the previous record of 1,440 in 2013, according to new data from Lex Machina, a Menlo Park-based legal analytics firm.
