Simpson Thacher: WESTERN MULTIPLEX WILL ADD TO WIRELESS EMPIRE

Western Multiplex Corp. has agreed to purchase Adaptive Broadband Corp. The deal is valued at $645 million. Sunnyvale's Western Multiplex makes point-to-point fixed broadband wireless communications systems. Internet service providers, telecommunications carriers and corporations use the company's equipment. Its customers include AT&T, Bell Atlantic Communications Inc., Motorola Inc. and Nextel Communications Inc.
