Court may weigh public school funding

The state Supreme Court might soon have an opportunity to answer the weighty question of whether the state's public schools are meeting their constitutional obligations.

At state Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu's confirmation hearing last month, Attorney General Kamala Harris brought up an issue that's near and dear to the former law professor's heart, asking him to share his beliefs about the scope of the state right to public education.


As expected from a judicial nominee, Liu's response was vague.
