Judicial Council approves court fees extension

The state Judicial Council approved an extension of controversial court fees Friday - an action coming despite judges' complaints that state underfunding has forced courts to use the costs to create a "pay-to-play" justice system.

SAN FRANCISCO - Despite complaints from judges and lawyers that years of state funding reductions has resulted in courts creating a "pay-to-play" justice system, the state Judicial Council approved an extension of court fees Friday.
