Deputy public defender pleads guilty to fraud

A Riverside County deputy public defender pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of Social Security fraud after years of improperly funneling her deceased grandmother's benefits into an account she controlled. Audrey Owens, who spent the last 12 years in the public defender's office, entered the guilty plea in front of U.S. District Judge Virginia A. Phillips. The judge scheduled sentencing for June 2.
