Environmental study for Banning Ranch development inadequate, court rules

The city of Newport Beach failed to conduct an adequate environmental review for a highly publicized plan to develop 401-acre Banning Ranch, the state Supreme Court unanimously ruled Thursday.

The city of Newport Beach failed to conduct an adequate environmental review for a highly publicized plan to develop 401-acre Banning Ranch, the state Supreme Court unanimously ruled Thursday.

The high court decision raises more uncertainty for the city and a local development group looking to build on Banning Ranch, one of the largest undeveloped tracts of coastal land in Southern California.
