Once 'laughing stock,' ADR industry catches up with civil court

The industry's sheer size and ubiquity prove that it has succeeded in creating a private system rivaling the public civil courts while at the same time changing the expectations of justice.

Last year, California's private dispute resolution companies mediated or arbitrated a number of civil cases so large it would place the industry somewhere between Santa Clara County and San Diego County in terms of limited civil caseload.
