Once 'laughing stock,' ADR industry catches up with civil court
The industry's sheer size and ubiquity prove that it has succeeded in creating a private system rivaling the public civil courts while at the same time changing the expectations of justice.

Last year, California's private dispute resolution companies mediated or arbitrated a number of civil cases so large it would place the industry somewhere between Santa Clara County and San Diego County in terms of limited civil caseload. Alone, the three largest outfits making up the bulk of the industry handled 25,000 matters.
