Playing Unfair

Forum Column - By Nancy Hogshead-Makar - Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. Sections 1681-1688, the federal law mandating gender equity in education, is under legal attack by wrestling coaches whose lawsuit against the Department of Education contends its enforcement operates as a quota that discriminates against men. In response, the Department of Education created the Commission on Opportunities in Athletics, purportedly to evaluate the fairness of Title IX.
