Legal services group throws annual 'Just Neighbors' event

Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles gave its Legal Excellence Award to the late Sam S. Oh during the aid group's eighth annual "Just Neighbors" fundraising event. Oh, a bankruptcy litigator with Lim, Ruger & Kim LLP, served on the group's board. He passed away in April at 49. Oh's family accepted the excellence award from Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Bruce G. Iwasaki, a former Lim Ruger partner who previously was the director of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. Also honored during the event was state Sen. Ed Hernandez, D-Los Angeles, who received the group's Community Service Award from board member Kathy Banuelos, of NBC Universal. More than 300 supporters gathered for the event Oct. 19 at the Autry National Center of the American West in Griffith Park. — Don J. DeBenedictis
