New Bill Addresses Lawyers' Call of Duty

Bruce Brusavitch, former president of Consumer Attorneys of California, wants uniform guidelines statewide for allowing attorneys to appear telephonically for minor court appearances. Proponents of state legislation say courts have a hodgepodge of rules that make it difficult for attorneys to know when they can make a phone appearance. A uniform law would save attorneys time, clients money and be better for the environment by keeping lawyers off roads and freeways, they say.
