The Americans for Tax Reform has complained that the Internal Revenue Service failed "to prevent a data breach that left taxpayer information belonging to more than 600,000 taxpayers stolen." It reported that "Physical security controls designed to protect sensitive IT housed in restricted areas were not being properly implemented, the agency continued to use unsupported software to manage taxpayer data, and personal data was not property encrypted."
