IT company's bid to compel arbitration denied

Northern District Judge William Alsup on Wednesday denied a motion to compel arbitration from Bay Area IT distributor Ma Laboratories Inc. in an employment lawsuit over unpaid overtime.

Northern District Judge William Alsup on Wednesday denied a motion to compel arbitration from Bay Area IT distributor Ma Laboratories Inc. in an employment lawsuit over unpaid overtime.

Alsup ruled that California contract law rendered the arbitration agreement unenforceable, despite federal public policy that broadly protects such agreements from challenges under state laws.
