Bar court recommends disbarring veteran lawyers despite emotional problems

Acting in separate cases, the State Bar Court review department said Karl Werner Schoth and Gregory Fulton Stannard should be disbarred for taking thousands of dollars from clients, although both had strong mitigation evidence.

In separate decisions last week, the State Bar Court review department recommended disbarment for two veteran lawyers with no prior discipline who suffered from extreme emotional problems. Both lawyers stipulated that they had misappropriated substantial amounts of money from clients, but both later paid the clients back.
