School sues State Bar to block rule requiring bar exam pass rate

The Soutnern California Institute of Law in Ventura and Santa Barbara filed a law suit attacking a new rule requiring State Bar-accredited law schools to maintain a 40 percent cumulative pass rate on the bar exam.

When the State Bar's Committee of Bar Examiners debated whether to mandate that at least half of the graduates of the California law schools the committee accredits should pass the bar exam, several deans expressed confidence the schools could meet the challenge.


Nevertheless, there was some opposition. The committee reduced its final requirement to 40 percent, and the new pass-rate standar...
