Bill proposed to curb 'frivolous' Prop. 65 suits

A bill to allow businesses 14 days to post Prop. 65 signs warning of hazardous substances may be the opening salvo in an effort by business interests to replicate last years' success reforming the Americans With Disabilities Act.

In response to decades of lawsuits against businesses, lobbyists and legislators have made noise about reforming a major law, Prop. 65, that requires businesses post signs alerting people about possible hazardous chemicals onsite. Now a bill by Assemblyman Mike Gatto, D-Silverlake, has proposed what may be the first of several bills to curb its alleged abuse.
