Munger, Tolles & Olson scores trademark case win over chair look-alike

In a win for Emeco Industries Inc.'s lawyers at Munger, Tolles, & Olson LLP, Restoration Hardware agreed to stop selling its "Naval Chair" to settle claims of infringement of Emeco's trademark and trade dress rights.

There may be hope for furniture design companies beset by competition from cheaper knockoff retailers. It comes in the form of a settlement between Pennsylvania manufacturer Emeco Industries Inc. and Palo Alto-based dealer Restoration Hardware Inc. over Restoration's low-priced version of the Emeco "Navy Chair" - aptly rechristened the "Naval Chair."
