Federal prosecutors avoided sanctions in a complex criminal case against Pacific Gas & Electric Co., even though a district judge found that government lawyers violated procedural rules.

The government is prosecuting PG&E, the state's largest utility, in the aftermath of the deadly 2010 San Bruno explosion that killed eight people, injured 58 and destroyed 38 homes.
