Lawsuit aims to spur EPA on biomass facility approval

A lawsuit filed by the Center for Biological Diversity alleges that the EPA's permit for an industrial biomass energy facility in Anderson did not include adequate greenhouse gas emission controls.

The Center for Biological Diversity sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Friday, challenging a Clean Air Act permit the agency issued for a 31-megawatt biomass power plant proposed by Sierra Pacific Industries in Anderson.


Biomass plants have come under fire by some groups for their practice of burning whole trees to generate energy.
