Large and midsize law firms have continued to snap up small firms across the state this year even as a notable group of successful independent firms has resisted the temptation to merge.
California saw three law firm mergers announced in February alone, half the number amassed in all of 2012, according to legal consultancy Altman Weil Inc.'s MergerLine statistics.
