9th Circuit weighs in on California union battle

In the latest round of a brawl between rival healthcare employee unions, the appellate court ruled that local union officals in Oakland had a fiduciary duty to follow the rules of the union's international leadership.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday decided the latest round in a brawl between rival health care employee unions, holding that local union officials in Northern California had a fiduciary duty to follow the rules of the union's international leadership.


Lawyers said the ruling may be a watershed moment in one of the largest private-sector union power struggles since the 1940s.
