Judge Orders Cash in Place of Benefits for Gay U.S. Lawyer's Spouse
A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge has ordered the public defender's office in Los Angeles to make a cash payment to a gay lawyer to compensate for the government's refusal to extend health benefits to his spouse.
