Carona Trial Will Put Spotlight on Ethics

As the corruption trial of former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona and his alleged mistress begins today, federal prosecutors will portray Carona and his cronies as motivated by greed and lust for power and influence. Defense attorneys will counter that the evidence against the sheriff and Debra Hoffman is flimsy and trivial, built largely on the testimony of highly untrustworthy informants who have all pleaded guilty to their own crimes.
