The one practice that democracy cannot tolerate is coercive intolerance. Democratic intolerance toward Islamic sharia law reflects Islamic intolerance of democratic values and personal liberty, particularly freedom of religion and other personal beliefs, private actions and intimate behaviors that sharia law seeks to regulate.
