Four years into the practice, Brown, White & Newhouse has grown to 12 lawyers. It handles commercial civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense.

LOS ANGELES - When Thomas M. Brown and Kenneth P. White left Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton in 2005 to launch their own practice, they didn't go far.

The pair set up Brown & White amid rented desks and cartons of files, eight floors below their former law offices. Although the space is smaller than their former digs, it boasts a knockout view of the downtown Los Angeles skyline.
