Auditor: California Bar's Discipline Costs Rise While Inquires Decline

The State Bar needs to get a better handle on its money, including its rapidly growing discipline costs, according to a recent report by the state auditor.

SAN FRANCISCO - The State Bar needs to get a better handle on its money, including its rapidly growing discipline costs, according to a report.

California State Auditor Elaine M. Howle's report, released July 21, says while the cost of the State Bar's discipline system rose $12 million, or 30 percent, between 2004 and 2008, inquiries made into attorney misconduct declined.
