SAN FRANCISCO - Retired San Francisco Superior Court Judge Joseph Desmond, known for bringing both humor and a human touch to the bench, passed away suddenly on Monday. He was 81.

A lifelong resident of San Francisco, Desmond spent 19 years as a judge on the municipal and superior courts, before retiring in 2002.
