Preliminary proceedings begin in Berkeley balcony collapse case

Judge rules Monday that 13 separate suits will be bundled into a single, complex case

OAKLAND - The 13 lawsuits filed in relation to the June balcony collapse in Berkeley that killed six Irish students and injured seven more will be bundled into a single case of complex litigation, an Alameda County Superior Court judge ruled Monday.

Judge George C. Hernandez Jr., ruled the case will be heard by Judge Brad Seligman. A case management hearing was scheduled for Jan. 8.
