A Guatemalan man has been given another shot at asylum by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled Tuesday that a gang threat to him and his family made his argument for refuge legally viable.
Legal observers believe the ruling could signal a shift in asylum cases, as it is considered to be the first that identifies a family as a protectable "social group" under law.
