Discipline over legal education hits new high

Record number of attorneys could face State Bar discipline for not meeting continuing legal education requirements.

More than 280 attorneys could face State Bar discipline for failing to meet their continuing legal education requirements, a 33 percent increase from a year ago, and the highest since annual audits began in 2011.

The attorneys will be referred to the Office of Chief Trial Counsel as a result of the bar's most recent annual audit of its members' compliance with Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) mandates.
