Inmate wins damages in retaliation trial

A Pelican Bay State Prison inmate has won a jury verdict against four guards for their unlawful search of his cell and seizure of legal research and stories he wrote about his conditions behind bars.

A San Francisco jury last week awarded Jesse Perez in $20,000 compensatory damages for emotional distress, to be paid by the prison itself.
