District court caseloads see a bump in California

Each district judge in the state handles more than the nationwide average, with the Eastern District the worst off. Bucking a nationwide downturn, filings for marijuana and other drug-related offenses jumped in California in 2012.

Judicial caseloads aren't getting any lighter.


Though it may not be a surprise to the district judges throughout California who face some of the heaviest weighted caseloads in the United States, numbers released Tuesday confirm district judges here had more work to do in 2012 than the year before.
