Regulators may order power sellers to pay $1.6 billion for role in energy crisis

An administrative law judge with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has ruled that several energy marketers overcharged California ratepayers during the summer of 2000, but the order is yet to be finalized.

Several energy companies could be forced to pay California ratepayers roughly $1.6 billion for overcharges during last decade's energy crisis, according to an initial ruling by a judge with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
