Legal professionals focus on diversity and preparing the next generation

On Feb. 7, Hogan Lovells and Fox Entertainment Group partnered with UCLA School of Law's Critical Race Studies Department and various student groups for a mock-interview event on UCLA's campus. Hogan Lovells associate Sara Harirchian, who organized the event with UCLA School of Law and event co-sponsors, commenced the mock interview workshop with a discussion of Hogan Lovells' commitment to diversity. Hogan Lovells counsel Robert Efthimos provided some general tips on the dos and don'ts of interviewing, providing examples taken from actual interviews. Mei-lan Stark, Senior Vice President of Intellectual Property at Fox Entertainment Group, and Jelani Lawson, counsel of Content Protection Technology at Fox Entertainment Group, provided students with their perspective on interviewing for in-house positions. "For many people who came, this was one of their first intensive interview experiences," said Stark. "It's important to give aspiring legal professionals the opportunity to get feedback." Over 30 students participated in mock interviews with the Hogan Lovells and Fox Entertainment lawyers. Students also mingled and spoke with the lawyers in small groups, asking numerous questions about legal interviewing, recruiting, life after law school and work-life balance.
