Reimagining custody

Child abandonment is a crime, but abandoning custodial rights is not. In fact, such irresponsible parents cannot even be held in contempt of the court's custody orders. By Candice Yummi Lee

A large spoonful of steamed white rice - topped with a slice of cheddar cheese, a piece of rinsed cabbage kimchi, and a squirt of ketchup - launched into the air and suspended until it slowly descended into my mouth. With my mouth full, I giggled and curled up to my dad as he mimicked a pilot's announcement for a re-launch.


I was only four years old then, and it is the only fond memory of my dad that has sustained our co-existen...
