Five bands made up of legal professionals performed at the Whisky A Go-Go on March 8 in the first annual Law Rocks! “battle of the bands” benefiting charitable organizations. Law firms competing in the concert included DLA Piper, Mayer Brown LLP, Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Affiliates and Venable LLP. The American Bankruptcy Institute also fielded a band, with its members traveling from all over the U.S. to participate. Delivering a performance that would make Jim Morrison, The Byrds and The Turtles proud, the band “Exposition Deposition,” formed by members of Venable and Sheppard Mullin, took home the first place prize. As a result, $25,000 went to its charity, The Painted Turtle, a camp for kids and teens with serious illnesses. DLA Piper’s band, “Run DLA,” finished second and will donate more than $8,000 to its charity, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Sponsors of the event included Venable, Watt Tieder Hoffer and Fitzgerald LLP, DLA Piper, and Mayer Brown.
