Toyota, state plaintiffs fight over bellwether case

Plaintiffs' lawyers suing Toyota Motor Corp. over runaway car allegations in Los Angeles County Superior Court want four economic damages cases, not large class actions, to reach a jury first.

LOS ANGELES - With more than 100 lawsuits pending in state court alleging Toyota Motor Corp. sold defective runaway vehicles, a duel erupted Wednesday over which case should go to trial as the first bellwether.


Plaintiffs proposed a crew of prominent trial lawyers should try four cases seeking economic damages, including one filed by the Orange County district attorney.
