Firefighter Ruling Likely to Recast Sotomayor Bid

The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling Monday in favor of a group of white firefighters is likely to have major political ramifications, starting with the confirmation hearing for Judge Sonia Sotomayor.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling Monday in favor of a group of white firefighters is likely to have major political ramifications, starting with the confirmation hearing for Judge Sonia Sotomayor.

Tapped to replace Justice David H. Souter, who stepped down Monday, Sotomayor was part of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel that the Supreme Court reversed in its 5-4 decision.
