Traveling "Judge-Educator" Retiring

Judith C. Chirlin, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge, well known for her teachings on the American justice system to nondemocratic societies, will be retiring effective Sept. 15, after 24 years, to join the ADR ranks.

LOS ANGELES - Judith C. Chirlin, described by one colleague as "our traveling judge-educator and good-will ambassador" for her many trips abroad to teach American justice in nondemocratic societies, will be retiring from the Los Angeles County Superior Court bench effective Sept. 15.

In announcing her decision, Chirlin said today marks the 24th anniversary of her swearing-in ceremony.
