Several hundred people gathered last week in the ceremonial courtroom at the federal courthouse in San Francisco to witness the induction of U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. She fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Vaughn R. Walker, who attended the event. The U.S. Senate confirmed Gonzalez Rogers to the bench Nov. 15. The mother of three, Gonzalez Rogers asked her son Christopher to lead the audience in the pledge of allegiance, and her daughter Maria formally invited the crowd to a reception. During the ceremony Chief Judge James Ware read a letter written by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia M. Sotomayor welcoming Gonzalez Rogers to the bench. Gonzalez Rogers is a former Alameda County Superior Court judge and keeps chambers in Oakland.
