Decision Clears Yacht Owner of Wrongful Death
SANTA BARBARA - The sea, they say, doesn't give its secrets up easily. That was certainly the case in the death of a veteran Santa Barbara sea urchin diver. Elwin O. Swint Jr., 53, died off Santa Rosa Island in August 1999 after his air hose became entangled in the propeller of a 49-foot yacht. His son then sued the yacht's owner, San Diego entrepreneur John Thornton, for wrongful death.
