Treatment of Prisoners Reveals Disrespect for Law
Forum Column - By Russell F. Maginnis - In John C. Eastman's article "Disqualifying Detainees from Protection: Geneva Convention Provides Rights and Treatment as War Prisoners Only to Lawful Combatants," (Forum, Jan. 28), Eastman argues that Afghans imprisoned by the United States at Guantnamo Bay are unlawful combatants and are not entitled to the protections of the Geneva Convention because Article I of the Hague Convention requires that they wear distinctive insignia, etc., and because they attacked unarmed civilians without any warning.
