Insatiable Jurors

Dicta Column - By Gregory C. O'Brien Jr. - Is there anything more American than entitlements? If you say "apple pie," just consider that someday pie could become an entitlement, too. Years ago, my courtroom bailiff in Pomona left me the following note at the end of a busy day: "Judge: As your bailiff, I have responsibility for our jurors. What would you think about putting a jar of instant coffee in our jury deliberation room? We already have the ability to boil water, so for a few bucks you could score some points with 12 voters. Heck, I'll buy. Cheryl."
