Stopping Secrecy

Forum Column by Richard McKee - Comedian Shelly Berman used to do a skit about an airline passenger who sees sparks and flames coming from the engine cowling. An inexperienced traveler, the passenger doesn't know whether the fireworks are normal, but his fears escalate as the plane nears take off. He rings for the stewardess, but when she appears, the passenger's concern for safety is overcome by the potential for embarrassment. He decides to keep his observation to himself.
