PATIENT PROTECTION

Forum: By Sheila James Kuehl Last year, along with Assemblyman Martin Gallegos, I was asked by Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa to negotiate a health-care reform package with the governor. With extraordinarily widespread public support, we passed historic legislation guaranteeing consumers' rights to sue their health-care plan for denial or delay of care and to have care-related decisions made by their insurance provider subject to an independent medical review.
